The Story of Junk in the Trunk

Do What You Love

Renee Johnson has long had a love for great furniture and décor, and hated to see good, useable items go to waste. As a result, she began collecting high quality, pre-owned modern, mid-century, vintage, antique and upcycled furniture, refinished and restored them, and offered them for resale at great prices. In addition, her husband, Chris, began creating farmhouse-style wood furniture.

In 2012, Renee and Chris decided to offer their growing inventory to the public and opened Junk in the Trunk at a Sioux Falls retail center on 12th Street and Marion Road. A short time later, after their lease was bought out by another business, Renee and Chris focused on selling their pieces at local flea markets instead.

When customers began requesting a permanent storefront with predictable hours again, the Johnsons reopened Junk in the Trunk at 1918 W 41st Street, just one block east of Western Avenue. In addition to the furniture and decor that the Johnsons make or repurpose, they also carry Dixie Belle chalk paint and Wise Owl paint. Visit often as their inventory continually evolves.
